Cystic fibrosis gene
I am certain that my DNA contains the faulty CF gene, although matched with a
normal copy. Therefore each of my descendants may develop cystic fibrosis,
depending on the other hereditory genes.
Ben told me he would not like to see any of our descendants, his indirect
descendants, suffer the pain he went through.
Therefore I must insist that any descendant contemplating reproduction should
undergo a DNA test. If it is found that they do carry the faulty gene, they
should require their partner to be tested. If their partner also proves
positive, they should take steps to exclude embryos inheriting the disease
itself. This last step will require medical assistance.
