About Frank J P Doherty (BA Cantab, 1972) formerly MIChemE

I first programmed a computer directly in 1972. It was huge (about the size of a small car) and there was only room left for one seat in the room. That was at Cambridge in my post-graduate year.

I then moved to the former GKN Contractors, where I spent happy years learning commercial aspects of life. I even went to Paris with a group of Korean businessmen. I have a strong linguistic streak and speak fairly good French and a little Russian, Spanish and German.

I then moved to the former British Gas Corporation, where I renewed my interest in computers, learnt more FORTRAN and started on Microsoft QuickBASIC. I had early experience of things like the internet on the company's internal long-distance electronic messaging facility. That was in the days before Windows. I only manage 2 websites at present, but have several possibilities in parish websites and a small (one-man) business.

I still use my home-made DOS programs from about 1990on, but of course I put them in windows nowadays. See my running records 1989-2009 in raw data form! Note you may need to plug in MS Notepad to see that file... I am experimenting with EXE files in my website (but I guess file management may differ from good old MS-DOS) - I'll see what Artisan think of it!

See me in the London Marathon 2003!                Edith Piaf, singer... One of my favourites: see Edith Piaf 1915-1963

Please note that Ben's ashes are secreted in above ground vault number 185 at Robin Hood Cemetery, Solihull, England. It is my wish that, should I be the next family member to die, my ashes may be added to his vault, which has room for 2. The lease on his vault expires in 2028AD, when I hope I or my heirs will renew it.
